CASA SPINEDA, Piazza San Leonardo, 1 - Treviso

Casa Spineda, located in the centre of Treviso, is a pretty building which has a fascinating history; it has been the agency seat of Fondazione Cassamarca from 1935 to today.
It belonged to Spineda, an aristocratic family, until half of the 19th century: Gaspare Spineda ordered the building to be raised about 1560.
He wanted a residence endowed with balconies; it had to have facades rich in ornamentations and to be located in Piazza S. Leonardo. Today these ornamentations have been lost unfortunately; perhaps they were made by Bordone or by Fiumicelli, two capable artists who worked in Treviso in that period.

The main stair which leads to the mezzanine from the ground floor dividing in two branches

There were some decorations on the outside walls of Casa Spineda, they represented the four seasons, Proserpina, Adonis’ death, Pallade and Nettuno; we have the one evidence of Mr. Burchiellati about these information today, because he was a notorious expert of Treviso history.

The Earl Marcantonio Spineda decided to restore and to enlarge the Palace in the 18th century, according to other evidences.
The building was extended on the back in this period, it is typified by a majestic main stair which develops from below with two flights, supported by an arcade leaning on Doric columns.
The main stair ends on the first floor with a one steps.

The Spineda Palace was provided with a splendid parties hall on that occasion, it develops still on two floors with gallery.

Gaspare Diziani made the frescoes of main stair in Casa Spineda, this event is attested by some found letters; he had been appreciated already for his frescoes made in Venice and Castelfranco Veneto.

The ornaments of the lobby portray a series of allegorical representations surrounded by stucco ornamentations located both over the door and on curved cornice joining le walls to ceiling. The four cardinal virtues are represented on the short sides of the hall and other four female figures (personifying the Art, the Military Glory, the Abundance and one not identifiable) are admirable on the long sides.
